The Maine 5,000 Plant Pheno Hunt
A 100% Off-Grid Cannabis Population Grown Deep in the Rugged Maine Backwoods
Green Harvest Blend – Population Cannabis Seeds
Grow hundreds of plants and hunt your own keeper phenotype from a massive 5,000-plant genetic population.
These seeds come from a large outdoor open-pollinated cannabis field grown in Maine, where approximately 5,000–6,000 plants were cultivated from regular seed across roughly one acre of outdoor farmland.
Male and female plants were allowed to pollinate naturally across the entire field, creating a huge genetic population where every seed represents a unique genetic combination drawn from thousands of plants.
The result is a diverse seed population designed for growers who enjoy phenotype hunting, breeding projects, and large outdoor plant populations.

Most breeder seed packs contain only 10 seeds.
This population was grown specifically for large-scale pheno hunting, where growers germinate many plants to discover unique phenotypes.
*Based on an average of sample testing showing approximately 85% mature seeds. Actual germination rates may vary depending on growing conditions. Scroll down to see an exact count of viable vs non-viable seeds in a 7g sample for this particular harvest blend.
Example Pheno Hunt Strategy
Many growers run small pheno hunts to discover unique plants.
A simple hunt might look like this:
- Germinate 50–100 seeds
• Identify the most vigorous plants
• Select standout terpene profiles, colors, or structures
• Clone the best plant to preserve your keeper phenotype
Because these seeds come from a 5,000+ plant genetic population, growing larger numbers of plants dramatically increases the chance of discovering a rare or exceptional phenotype.
Built for Pheno Hunters
Most breeder projects are developed from very small plant populations, sometimes only a few dozen plants.
This field contained thousands of plants growing together, allowing pollen to move naturally throughout the entire population.
Because of this:
- every seed carries a different genetic combination
• rare phenotypes can appear
• terpene expressions vary widely
• plant colors and structures can differ dramatically
This type of large population grow creates the kind of diversity that breeders and pheno hunters actively look for.
Regular Seeds (Not Feminized)
These are regular cannabis seeds, meaning plants may grow male or female.
Because the entire field was grown from regular seed and pollinated naturally, the population contains a natural mix of sexes.
These seeds are ideal for:
- pheno hunters
• breeders
• outdoor growers
• large population planting
• growers exploring diverse genetics
These seeds are not stabilized breeder seeds designed to produce identical plants.
Instead, they are population genetics, where the goal is to grow multiple plants and discover standout phenotypes.

Green Harvest Blend
Seeds in this harvest blend were collected from female plants that displayed:
-
pure green coloration
-
citrus / pine / lemon terpene profiles
Because the field was open-field pollinated, any male plant in the population could have pollinated these females, meaning each seed may produce a different phenotype.
The plant shown on this page represents a typical expression, but each seed may grow into something unique.
Genetics Present in the Field
The population included genetics related to:
- Purple Jello
• Grape Jelly
• Blackberry Haze
• Northern Lights
• Aurora Borealis
• Purple Haze
Because pollination occurred naturally across the field, every seed represents a new genetic combination drawn from these lineages.
Harvest Blends
Seeds from the field are grouped into Harvest Blends based on the phenotype of the female plants from which the seeds were collected.
This allows growers to explore different portions of the population.
Available blends include:
Each blend represents a different section of the field’s genetic diversity.
Seeds Are Sold By Weight
These seeds are sold by weight rather than individual count.
Sorting and counting hundreds of thousands of seeds individually would significantly increase packaging time and cost.
Selling seeds by weight allows growers to obtain large quantities efficiently, making these seeds ideal for pheno hunting and large plant populations.
Estimated Seed Count
Based on sampling:
7g sample ≈ 382 seeds
- 338 mature seeds
• 44 immature seeds
This indicates roughly 88.5% mature seeds.
Because seeds are sold by weight, packs will naturally contain a mixture of mature and immature seeds.
Seed count sample verification:
Germination Expectations
These seeds are unsorted raw seeds.
While most seeds are mature and viable, some may be immature.
For this reason these seeds are best suited for growers who plan to germinate larger quantities and hunt for standout plants, rather than those seeking a small number of identical plants.
Germination Troubleshooting Method
Many growers use the wet paper towel plate method.
If you're having issues with seeds popping, we recommend a straight water soak for troubleshooting:
- Place seeds in a cup of room temperature water
- Store in a cool, dark place
- Wait for seeds to crack
- Transfer sprouted seeds to soil or your preferred growing medium
Germinate Straight Into The Ground (Time-Efficient Method)
Harvest Information
Harvested: Fall 2024
Grow Method: Outdoor open pollination
Location: Maine
Population Size: ~5,000–6,000 plants
Grow Area: ~1 acre
Seeds were dried and stored in a cool, dry environment at approximately 55% humidity to preserve viability.
No hermaphrodite plants were observed during the grow.
Limited Population Release
These seeds represent one harvest from this population grow.
With potential hemp regulatory changes expected by November 2026, interstate cannabis seed sales may become restricted.
Additionally, the farmer who collaborated on this grow has passed away, and the remaining seeds are now in the possession of his family.
Once this population is sold out, these seeds will not be reproduced.

Customer Notice of Liability
Cannabis seeds are considered federally legal hemp under the 2018 Farm Bill because they contain less than 0.3% THC prior to germination.
They may legally be bought, sold, and shipped across state lines.
By purchasing these seeds, you assume all responsibility for complying with the laws of your jurisdiction if you choose to germinate them.
We recommend consulting a legal professional before germinating cannabis seeds.
